May is the perfect time of year to visit Alberta!

The wild horses come down from the higher elevations to have their foals in early spring. The herd dynamics are spectacular to watch. Stallions are sparring with each other to collect mares, and it is breeding season.

Testimonial:

"Upon arriving at the Alberta retreat, we were warmly welcomed by Debbie, Sandy Sharkey and the Panther River Lodge staff
The cabins were cozy and well maintained.
And we saw many wild horses along the way to the lodge!
Still, I was nervous about opening myself up and my issues to strangers! I decided I would not reveal anything about myself.
During equine assisted learning sessions, my attitude changed rapidly. First, I saw a red chestnut gelding and started to cry. I couldn’t look at him because I had lost a mare with vastly similar appearance. I told Debbie this. Her reply was, “Well, I guess you should work with him.”
With her gentle direction and the assistance of another participant, I was leaning over his back and attempting to work through my guilt over my mare’s death.
There were some other more intense activities that allowed us to release the anger and frustration we had held for a lifetime. So much for revealing nothing.
The wild horse excursions were truly magical. We encountered roughly 100 - 150 'wildies' through the week and a couple dozen foals.
It was lovely to work and live with like-minded individuals.
Overall it was an amazing experience!
I highly recommend this retreat."
