Sabbatical (noun) Time claimed — not escaped into — for reflection, renewal, and deeper engagement with life.

The Inevitable: Live Fully Mini-sabbatical

Not A Vacation

A sabbatical is not an escape from life — it’s a return to it.

Unlike a vacation, which often fills time with distraction or consumption, a sabbatical is a short, intentional pause from routine life.

It creates space to step out of momentum long enough to notice what has been shaping you — and what is asking for your attention now.

Time, Chosen Deliberately

Traditional sabbaticals can last months or years. Most people never take one.

A mini-sabbatical offers something different: time that is bounded, accessible, and intentional — typically a few weeks to a couple of months — without requiring a complete life overhaul. Long enough to matter. Short enough to be possible.

Purpose, Not Productivity

There is no agenda to complete and no version of yourself to optimize.

Mini-sabbaticals can take many forms — immersive retreats, creative work, time in nature, or intentional reflection — but what they share is purpose over productivity.

This is not time to fix yourself. It’s time to listen more closely.

When Impermanence Becomes a Teacher

Every life carries two truths we’re often taught to keep separate: that death is inevitable — and that life is meant to be lived fully.

The Inevitable: Live Fully Retreat is a private mini-sabbatical designed for those who want to live in honest relationship with impermanence — not as fear, but as aliveness.

Here, death is not the focus. Life is.

Is It Time to Stop Time?

What happens if you stop vibrating between obligation and distraction — even briefly?

Are you?

  • Navigating a life transition, loss, aging, or a shift in identity
  • Sense that “someday” is no longer an assumption
  • Searching for time to reflect without being rushed or managed
  • Nature, and experiential ways of listening
  • Ready to live with more clarity, freedom, and fewer regrets

  • Regular equine-supported coaching sessions, offering quiet insight through direct, experiential interaction rather than talk alone.

  • Spacious time between sessions for rest, journaling, walking, and integration.

  • Field journeys to the Pacific Ocean, the cloud forest, or other regional places that offer perspective, awe, and reflection.

  • Unexpected moments of clarity — insights that emerge in pauses rather than effort, often reshaping how you relate to time and what matters most.

  • Immersion in a culture aligned with natural cycles, where rest, meals, and community follow the rhythms of life rather than urgency.

This experience is about allowing the reality of impermanence to deepen how fully you live while you’re here.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • You will be a guest with a local Costa Rican family. Please see the Homestay tab for more information.

  • What makes this experience different from a traditional vacation or tourist stay?
This is not a tourist experience—it’s a living experience. Rather than being catered to, you’ll be welcomed into the rhythm of local life. You’ll share meals, conversations, and laughter with your host family, connecting in ways that go far beyond sightseeing. It’s an invitation to slow down, listen, and live as part of the community.
  • What does “cultural immersion” mean in this context?
Cultural immersion means learning by living. You’ll participate in daily routines, community gatherings, and authentic exchanges that reveal the heart of Costa Rican life. It’s about presence, respect, and curiosity—allowing yourself to be changed by the experience rather than trying to control it.
  • Is it safe to walk around the area?
Yes. The area is generally peaceful and friendly.  It is rural, and roads can be uneven or unlit at night. Walking during the day is common, and locals often greet one another with warmth. As in any travel situation, awareness and respect for your surroundings are encouraged.

  • What are the accommodations like?
You’ll stay in a simple, comfortable home with a private room. Expect rustic charm rather than luxury.
  • Are meals included?
Yes. Meals are typically homemade with fresh, local ingredients. You’ll share family-style meals and experience Costa Rican favorites, such as gallo pinto, fresh produce, and handmade tortillas.
  • Can dietary preferences be accommodated?
Most hosts can adjust for vegetarian or light dietary needs if arranged in advance. Because food is prepared within family kitchens, flexibility and gratitude go a long way.
  • Is the water drinkable?

Yes, the public water comes from a pure mountain spring.

  • Is there Wi-Fi or electricity?
Yes, though connections can vary. Power outages are part of life in rural Costa Rica—an invitation to pause, unplug, and embrace the simplicity of being present.

  • Will a car be available?
Plan to walk, share rides, or hire local taxis. The paved road is about 5 kilometers away, adding to the peaceful seclusion of the experience.
  • Is the location remote?
Yes, intentionally so. It’s nestled in nature—quiet, alive, and inspiring. The distance from busyness is part of what makes the experience transformative.

  • Do I need to speak Spanish to participate?
Not at all! Many guests come with little or no Spanish. The magic happens in the in-between spaces—when gestures, laughter, and patience become the language of connection.
  • Will there be Spanish lessons?
Structured lessons may be arranged depending on your interests, but much of the learning happens organically through daily interaction and immersion.
  • What if I can’t understand my host family?
You’ll find that kindness, tone, and eye contact often carry more meaning than words. Communication becomes creative and heartfelt—an authentic language of its own. Translation apps are a great help!

  • What should I pack?
Beyond the usual things you'd take for a time away, think simple and comfortable: lightweight clothing, a rain jacket, an umbrella, a hat, water shoes, rubber boots, a swimsuit, a quick-dry bath towel, sunscreen, hiking shoes, a flashlight, insect repellent, and an open heart.
  • Do I need travel insurance?
Yes, travel insurance that covers health, cancellations, and emergencies is required.
  • Is medical care available nearby?
Yes. There are clinics and private medical options within driving distance, and emergency care can be coordinated if needed.
  • What is the elevation?

               2500 to 3000 feet

Year-round, the days here average around 80°F (27°C) with comfortable nights in the 60s (16–20°C). You’ll likely want a light sweater or jacket for the evenings, especially if you’re sitting outside under the stars. There’s usually a soft breeze that keeps the air fresh, but it’s rarely windy unless a storm moves through.

This region enjoys a rhythm of seasons rather than dramatic changes, with each month offering its own beauty.

Typical Weather Patterns:

  • January – March: Mostly dry and sunny with very little rain.
  • April: Occasional light rain during the day, several times a week.
  • May: Afternoon or evening rains become more frequent—sometimes heavy but short-lived.
  • June: Slightly less rain than May, but similar afternoon and evening showers.
  • July: A touch drier; showers tend to come late in the day or at night.
  • August: Often brings days with no rain at all or just a brief passing shower.
  • September: Rain increases again, usually in the late afternoon or night.
  • October – November: Expect heavier rains for a few hours most days and evenings, though mornings are often sunny or partly overcast.

  • What if I feel homesick or overwhelmed?
That’s normal. Immersion stretches us in meaningful ways. Take time to rest, journal, or talk with your host. Most guests find that these moments become some of their greatest teachers.
  • How can I prepare for this experience?
Come with an open mind, curiosity, and a willingness to let go of expectations. The more you surrender to the rhythm of the place, the more it will reveal its gifts.

  • No horse experience is necessary to participate.
